The Prince Henry Castle
The Grodno Mountain is the highest peak of Łomnickie Hills. A broad panorama of the Karkonosze Mountains which seem to be at one’s fingertips spreads from the peak. A small building called the Prince Henry Castle is situated there. According to legends, Henry von Reus, owner of the nearby Staniszów, was overcome by significant envy while looking at the Chojnik Castle which at the time belonged to the family of Schaffgotsch. He decided to build a small castle with a central tower in the neogothic style. It perfectly fitted into the spirit of the times and the fashion for creating atmospheric and romantic hideaway places. Initially, the little castle served as a shelter during hunting and in time it became a viewing point. The present shape was obtained by it in the mid-19th century. The building lies on a square plan. In order to make it look older than it really waws, bricks and former irregular stones were used to build it. A seasonal viewing point (May-October) operates nowadays in the tower.
Grodna, on the slope of which the castle was built, may be reached from the parking at Złoty Potok Street in Sosnówka. One should follow the yellow trail to reach this destination. By the signpost where the trail sharply turns left there is an information board with options of access. While staying on the trail you pick the shortest route which is also the steepest one. While following the broad route we follow a longer distance but this option is much milder in terms of steepness.
